Bokeh Series
This series of photographs is an exploration into light and color. It came to be after experimenting with light and sound in a video project. The Bokeh Series explores how objects can change the shape of light and show what a camera can do technically to manipulate an image. Without the use of the camera and lens, our eyes cannot see the resulting images. The subjects used between the light source and lens melt into the background and create an impressionistic image that allows the viewer to enjoy the overall image instead of what the subject was.
Drawn shapes and patterns are projected onto the light source creating the bokeh background. A very shallow depth of field is required to produce the outcome. Transparent and opaque objects placed between the camera and light source ranged from glass, fabric and plastic. The setup below is an example of what our eyes see before the involvement of the camera and object are brought into the process.
